I had spent almost a decade working at media agencies in New York and Chicago, crafting strategic paid advertising campaigns for brands like Lysol, Air Wick, Whole Foods and Cox Business. But when I looked at the women leading these agencies, I struggled to see how I could grow in my career AND be the mom I wanted to be- the present mom who was there for school pick up, volunteered at the Halloween parade and was present at home.
So when I was offered a position leading paid media in-house of a large CPG company, supporting brands like Healthy Choice, Angie's BOOMCHICKAPOP, and Reddi-wip, I was thrilled. I had always heard client side had better work life balance and was a more family friendly environment...but that was far from my experience.
Like many of us back then, I made it work, setting up the boppy and some toys behind my vanity turned desk with. my makeup mirror positioned juuust right so I could see my little guy in the rearview while I worked.
Despite positive reviews, I soon found out that I had been passed over for a Director Role, one that no one had told me had been created, because "We didn't think you'd come back from maternity leave". That was my breaking point.
I realized if I wanted to have a successful, fulfilling career AND be the mom I wanted to be, I would have to create it myself.
Building a Business That Works for Life (Not the Other Way Around)
Soon after, I stumbled across a webinar about becoming a virtual ads manager. With over a decade of experience running ad campaigns for global brands, it was a natural fit.
In 2021, I launched my own business—helping female founders scale their sales without sacrificing time with their families.
Since then, life has brought more twists—another baby, a brief return to corporate leading paid social for one of the world’s largest beverage brands, and a relaunch of my business as Samantha Fine Digital.
And now? I use my knowledge from the world’s biggest brands to help put money in the pockets of female business owners, instead of adding more to the pockets of countless male CEOs of billion-dollar brands.
It’s a pretty good feeling.
